Ao longo dos séculos, o Castelo de Pombal sofreu várias alterações, sobretudo durante os reinados de D. Sancho I e D. Manuel I. Para além da sua função militar, foi também residência senhorial.
Em 1811, durante as Invasões Francesas, o castelo foi atacado e sofreu danos. Já no século XX, foi restaurado e valorizado.
O Castelo de Pombal dispõe de um centro interpretativo e de exposições que permitem conhecer melhor a sua longa e rica história.

The castle is also associated with ancient legends, such as that of the Moor Al Pal Omar, linked to the origin of the name Pombal, which forms part of local memory and tradition.
Over the centuries, Pombal Castle underwent several alterations, especially during the reigns of King Sancho I and King Manuel I. In addition to its military function, it also served as a manorial residence.
In 1811, during the French Invasions, the castle was attacked and damaged. In the 20th century, it was restored and enhanced.
Pombal Castle includes an interpretation centre and exhibitions that allow visitors to better understand its long and rich history.
