Cloister

The cloister was the last part of the monastery to be completed

Considered the largest Baroque cloister in the 17th century it is the result of the combination of three distinct architectural styles according to the different architects involved namely Manuel do Couto Custódio Vieira and Carlos Mardel

Classified as a national monument in 1910 it is a large space with a quadrangular plan with two floors The lower floor has four corners each with a small fountain

On the upper floor above the fountains there are emblems alluding to the Queen

In the center there is a sculpture of Our Lady of Conception brought from the external courtyard Our Lady of the Conception was a person of particular devotion on the part of the Order of Friars Minor founded by Saint Francis of Assisi
